Examples of developed affiliate sites on generic domains

Are there any examples of generic typin domain that is 'commercially' themed e.g. keyboards.com, monitors.com, babystore.com, etc.

THat someone has built out using affiliates/adsense that is doing really well?

I'm looking for some kind of a case study where the owner reveals their successes etc.

Basically should one just go the ecommerce route themsleves, or could one make some decent $ doing something that is more of a passive way to make money (as oppose to buying inventory and shipping boxes hehe).

snowstate - i have a few sites like this. Won't tell you what they are, but find a product that is halfway interesting (so you won't get bored out of your skull) and write about it. One page about each product. Information about the technology, history of the product etc. It will take you a year to get any real traffic if the term is halfway competitive.

then once you rank or have decent traffic - see who is bidding on the keywords on google. Call them up or email them and say "i'll sell you clicks" for 1/2 of what you pay google. Or put adsense on there.

    can work well.

they do very well - but 95% because of the search traffic, not the domain itself.

I have bought some of their things as well, nice process.

they tried to buy one of my names as well.

And when they can't get the generic they just throw "just" or "e" onto the name....

On the netshops angle: "NetShops Inc. is planning to add 30 to 50 web stores to its roster of about 230 niche stores in 2008, along with upgrading web content that will include more product images and Flash video technology.." http://www.internetretailer.com/dailyNews.asp?id=25197
