A content delivery network (CDN) refers to a geographically distributed group of servers which work together to provide fast delivery of Internet content. A CDN allows for the quick transfer of assets needed for loading Internet content including HTML pages, javascript files, stylesheets, images, and videos.

CDN – you keep seeing the acronym. Maybe in URLs, maybe on landing pages, but it never quite clicked – what are Content Delivery Networks, what do they do exactly?
At its core, a CDN is a network of servers connected to each other with the aim of delivering content in the fastest, most economical, reliable and safe way possible. To improve speed and connectivity, a CDN will place servers at exchange points between different networks.

    Hi Friends,
CDN is short for content delivery network. A content delivery network (CDN) is a system of distributed servers (network) that deliver pages and other Web content to a user, based on the geographic locations of the user, the origin of the web page and the content delivery server.

    Here’s how it works:
we use Sirv CDN as an example

Your media library is synced with Sirv. Original images are left untouched.

Sirv starts serving images from its global CDN to your visitors. But there’s a catch. Images are generated on-the-fly for each and every visitor (based on their device). Images are cached later for best performance obviously.

This means that WebP gets sirved to all supported mobile and desktop browsers. Images get resized and optimized on-the-fly too. The best part is that you don’t have to do anything, just install the plugin and Sirv will handle everything automatically.

A content delivery network or content distribution network is a geographically distributed network of proxy servers and their data centers. The goal is to provide high availability and high performance by distributing the service spatially relative to end-users
