    My 2 cents --

And I think .INFO actually works far better for this purpose and very few people have yet to register their names in .INFO so virtually all names (FirstLast.INFO) are available.

Whick whould you rather post your resume at:

    JohnDoe.NAME

    or

    JohnDoe.INFO

.name also means domain, Tikka. Wait and watch. It will have more value than .biz in next 2 years.

We will see.Market economics will soon decide. They have relaxed the restriction from Third level to second level. .name is free from country tld, easy to remember (even much easier than .info). Why? it is the first 10 words a baby knows while it grows.
All you have to say,hey look at mydomain.name, it is .name not .com.Okay!! You won't have to spell like B as boy O as Orange Z as Zesus. It is name, sweet name!!!

Not to Mr Skaggs it ain't.
All in the eye of the beholder until the market speaks.
I can't imagine a better name for Domain Name Marketing then Domain.Name. And, off the top of my head, I like the chances of Trademark.Name, Brand.Name, Search.Name, Directory.Name, Info.Name, Classmate.Name, Web.Name, Trace.Name, Find.Name and 1000's more, including some of my own. Somebody sees something in them, because the ones w/ the best thematic potential are unavailable. Might end up having a special niche for "name" related business. It's worth a small risk in my book.

Most of the names you describe above have been reserved, most of them for no good reason.

.name is a very strange tld and IMHO it sucks.

Ha. I get a kick out of posts like that. An opinion w/o any explanation or reasoning to support it. It's all about educated and uneducated guesses at this point. I type one of my .Name domains in and, bingo, it pops right up on the screen, no problem.
All of the ones I mentioned above are gone, and then some, as mentioned in the post..

    HA HA!
You better do your research before you laugh!

Try a whois on a few names.
I get:"Not available for second level registration. Third level registrations may be available on this name."
    for:
    Trademark.name
    Search.Name
    web.Name
    Find.Name
    trace.name

    Also:
    domain.name
    domains.name
    family.name
    first.name
    last.name
    party.name
    army.name
And the list goes on forever...

I think your whois is out of date. Maybe your search engine needs to do a little more research. 2nd level registration has been available since early this month. They are so new, that I doubt if many sites are up yet. A couple of mine are currently on Afternic name servers. Interested in buying one? HaHa.

A registry that protects itself, as well as people from themselves.

    Interesting.

Well I doubt www.whois.name is out of date.
Maybe try typing the names above and see what happens.

    Try:
    Stats.name
    IDs.Name
    YourFamily.Name
    NewBaby.Name

in your browser or at whois.Name. But I got your point. As is the case w/ .us,(ie. president.us, senator.us), some names have been reserved/pulled/unavailable and apparently same is the case w/ domain.name and others you mention. I stand corrected, I used a bad example. Had searched domain earlier when only 3rd level available (Great.Domain, do.main, etc.) and when searched 2nd level had not tracked back to find out why domain.name wasn't avail.
How about TopDomain.Name? Traffic.Name? Smart.Name? and for the naynamesayers (or "nonames"), Crappy.Name?
