I guess what one is known as or nickname leaves the door open somewhat. I wonder if they can be used generically.

Actually, there is an ERDRP for eligibility disputes. It does seem the requirements for .name registration are very strict, at least they way they are worded in the Icann agreement. .Biz has one too, (though not near as strict) but it doesnt seem to be used much, at least I haven't heard of it used.

    Still, I'd be careful.

One thing cool I owe to .name. I was just checking to see if my name was available and the .com was. It never was before and is not in any other variation.

Are there different eligibility requirements for .name second and third level registrations?
No, .name remains is a space for individuals' Personal Names. A Personal Name may be, without limitation, a name, nickname, pseudonym, alias, or something an individual or fictional character is commonly known as in its own social context. An individual can register a Personal Name, or a company or individual can register a fictional character to which it has rights. This is valid for both third level and second level registrations. For a full description of the Eligibility Requirements, please click here

    I think should be okay

I wonder whether this still holds weight today, given the Google Florida update late last year.

newlife, i dont think example.name can be registered because example.* is ICANN reserved domain name (example.com/net/org/biz/info... are not open for regs).

Oh !Look like you have gone thru all the names suggested by him!Hw many have you registred?
You are right example.com can't be registred and same should be valid for example.name. This is being reserved so people can say anything@example.com in examples and not anything_at_foo.com etc as we do. :-)

I saw example.name and i remembered that example.* is ICANN reserved name, so i think this one should be reserved too, not available for reg. Just wanted to save trouble to somebody who might be unaware of that.
PS: If you must know, i registered only 1 dotname
