    LPG is stored in the cylinders under high pressure because the butane gas turns into liquid when the pressure is high. In the cylinders it is usually maintained in the liquified state. Thats is why it is called Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG).

    If pressure is increased to approximately 8 times the atmospheric pressure, these gases turned into liquid and the quantity of storage in the same volume increases enormously. Hence these are called Liquified Petroleum Gas.
