One of the problems we have with the Internet is people want everything for free. *I think people realize something has to pay for time and effort they just want it to be someone else. *Namebio recently announced a membership program that allows members new features not offered in the past and there was a discussion on Namepros about whether or not they would be paying for it:

Before I get talking, Full Disclosure: I work with Adam Strong, the founder of Namebio, *and have a free membership. Adam also lives close to me so we’ve discussed Namebio for years and its monetization but not any kind of numbers or stats. *Just it’s history and function.

Right now Namebio is being paid for by advertising and advertising domain auctions and it probably pays the bills. But for years Adam offered the service for free but with no income, had little incentive to keep the site up to date and running smoothly. *When Michael Sumner joined the team he upgraded the site to what you see today. *Michael had to come up with a way to pay for his time and effort and that’s the advertising you see today. *I don’t know how much the current advertising makes or the traffic it draws, but if I owned the site, *I would be severely limiting the use of people that don’t pay. *It’s too good of a service and has to much data to give away for free. *Comps are one of the most important parts of pricing domains and everyone I know uses Namebio for that data. All the other sites that offer similar services scraped the data from Namebio. * I think the $10 membership is more than fair for the average person in our industry . *But there is one bigger problem. If everyone signed up then at best I think you would have 1000 subscriptions because I really don’t think there are more than 1000 people that are active daily in our industry. *Sure, Namescon has more in attendance than that number but take away the business people selling services and companions, the real number is about 1000. All a guess. *Namepros would have some good data but I don’t think they would want to share it because it would hurt business to know how many active daily accounts there were. And again I could be wrong. *What I’m not wrong about is that everyone that uses Namebio should pay the $10 a month. * You’ll make the entire years cost with a sell or buy that was made with better information than without Namebio. **Here*are today’s names. *Click through to see the current price and to fund this daily list
