Godaddy appraisals
I had an appraisal done of a domain name by Godaddy. I went for the $14.99 option rather than the $4.99 one as I thought they might take a few seconds to actually analyse the domain.
I must say I was shocked at their valuation. It was way way out of the range of what I and other domainers thought it was worth. The proof of the pudding is in the eating and I ended up selling the domain name for a staggering 50x what Godaddy had appraised it at.
I have since read other postings about people saying Godaddy's appraisal service is a waste of money and just thought I'd post to save other people being lured by their abysmal service.

That sums it up perfectly.

not every 50k sale gets reported. MOST sales do not.

50x could be 50x50 or 50x100. It's probably not 50x1000.

draqon is absolutely right: "MOST sales do not."
We sold a four character .com for $75,000 last month. I shouldn't say what the domain name is, because the purchasers don't want publicity. But, it would have only taken a few minutes of Godaddy's appraiser's time to see that the domain name was worth more than their absurd valuation - I think it was something like $200. I don't know what the precise ratio is, but there's quite a difference between $200 and $75,000! They must have some monkeys doing their valuations.
I tried to get a refund, but they wouldn't have anything of it.

Have you got a list of other 4 character .coms (I assume not words) that have sold for $75k? Compare that to the amount of 4 character .coms that haven't sold. Assuming your four character .com is not a word then I would say a $75k sale is VERY lucky and incredibly far from the norm. godaddy's evaluation of $200 seems a bit high in my opinion. Of course if the domain is a word then it's a different matter.

Appraisals often come under fire because people think they are indications of what they will sell for, not what the appraiser believes is probable. Every domain sale has its own set of variables based on the buyer and seller - their financing, desire to own, desire to sell etc.
When using google for counts - use double quotes for usage counts for multiword terms and set "match type" to "exact" for all search volume lookups. Click here for more info
