I believe both the ways of link Building are essential for SEO.I just have a feeling that Article are a bit more important than Blog Postings,but at the same time we also can not neglect Blogs.

I have observed in my seo career that only a few article directories are offering the limited number of links with in the article body and so in the resource box but on the same time the blog sites allow more than that of the article sites. Mean while i do not encourage the article posting but in my own opinion blogging has the more advantages than that of the article submission.
