What kind of hosting doe you use
I wonder what kind of web hosting accounts do you have?
Is it web hosting, reseller, VPS?
Please share your ideas here.

mostly full managed VPS... lots of them, from various providers both US and offshore as well
"dont keep ur eggs in one basket"

I am currently offering shared Hosting (Reseller) as it serves most of my clients requirements

As I am web hosting provider it is probably clear where I host my websites
When you need to decide if to go with shared hosting, reseller account, VPS or dedicated server you should think about the expected traffic and resources which you will use.
For most business websites is shared hosting ok. If you have a lot of visitors or use some script which needs too much resources you should consider VPS. With really big project you will need to upgrade to dedicated server.
To host more websites of your clients reseller accounts are the right solution. If you need to host multiple website which you own you can use cheaper solution - shared hosting allowing to host multiple websites under one account.

Well I am using Hostgator and dedicated server as well. As maintaining clients business and my own google supported directories are not easy to host.
Using different IPs as well so that clients will get backlinks from various and different IPs

I use linux hosting as well (with 1and1). I have heard alot of bad reviews about 1and1 but I have never had any trouble with them - been with them for about 5 years.
The things that are really making me concider virtual server are:
1. I have been trying to get a file upload script working and I keep getting an error about max_memory or something, looked into it and its something to do with the memory allocated to php - on 1and1 shared it is about 30mb - I assume this would be increased with a virtual server as the minimum memory you get with 1and1 VS is 256mb.
2. My cmsms site is actually quite slow to load - it reports load time in the html when a page is loaded and the average load time for 1 of my pages is about 3.5 seconds - not so good. my html is about 20kb and pictures amound to about 70-80kb in total. But I think what takes the time is all the externals that need to be pulled in - dynamic content via php, sql database has to be read, etc Im wondering if a virtual server would make all this a bit quicker..

Since when has daddy become free? Am I missing something

AVOID GODADDY DEDICATED!
I do trust Hostgator VPS though and you can cluster them or go dedicated if you outgrow it. VPS ROCKS!
