    New Categories and Auto Categorization

We are happy to announce a new category tree for domains in Sedo's marketplace and a new Auto Categorization Tool!

This new category structure includes more than 2,500 categories allowing you to better target your domains to relevant buyers.

In addition to the new category tree, we’re also launching an Auto Categorization Tool which will automatically determine a Master Category for your domains. You won’t be required to categorize each domain in your portfolio--just have a look through and make sure you’re happy with the category the automated system has chosen. Of course you can also manually set a category for any of your domains.

This more robust category classification and the new Auto Categorization Tool improve the optimization of your parked domains as well! You’ll see the benefits of more closely related content and therefore improved CTRs and revenue.

For any domains which were previously uncategorized or categorized as “other” the system will automatically choose a relevant master category. Domains previously categorized will be mapped over to a corresponding category in the new category tree. Any time you upload a new domain to Sedo’s system the Auto Categorization Tool will automatically choose a master category for your domain.

We hope you enjoy the benefits of the new categories and the Auto Categorization Tool! At Sedo we believe in continuous improvement. Our parking clients can expect another update this week announcing other exciting product updates we have implemented based on popular demand.

Please let us know if you have any questions or feedback.

I am sure this was developed with the best intentions, but in the past I have always found Sedo's automatic selection of categories pretty poor. And I don't really expect that going to 2500 categories is going to improve this much.

The .com already give some funny examples:
    - ApprovedMovie.com is correctly categorised as Arts/Movies, but the plural Approvedmovies.com is categorised as Business/Auctions.
    - Minihotel.com goes as Uncategorised, the plural Minihotels.com is seen as Furniture.
    - Many perfectly clear names as ItalyHoliday.com or EarnMeMoney.com are Uncategorised.

These are .com examples. Results get even worse if you look at the ccTLDs, even if it is Sedo's homebase: the .de domains.

If you want to use this at all, you'll have to go through your whole portfolio and set categories manually.

    Hello hanogl,

Thank you for getting in touch with us. As with most new products, there may be some technical issues that will need to be worked out.

We apologize for this inconvenience and will be working to resolve these issues quickly.

i wouldnt bring out a product in the market without doing enough test in the beta phase.
This only shows that the company is bringing the change just for the sake of it
    just my 2 cents
