U.S., EU Clear Microsoft-Yahoo Search Deal

BRUSSELS—Antitrust regulators in the U.S. and Europe have cleared Microsoft Corp. to take over Yahoo Inc.'s Internet search business, without imposing any restrictions on the partnership.

EU regulators said the combination, announced in July 2009 after earlier efforts to combine the companies unraveled, would be good for competition challenging Google Inc.'s dominance in Europe.

Microsoft and Yahoo said they plan to begin the process of implementing the deal, which would see Microsoft's Bing becoming the search engine on Yahoo Web sites, leaving Yahoo to focus on display advertising.
