I'm always curious why people have a beef and can't set it aside . . . Juniper what's your beef man ?
The conference isn't about a person or their personality it's about business.
My 2cents : Having issues with Rick Schwartz or not liking him for whatever reason should not get in your way of doing business . . . trade shows are part of business. Setting your feelings aside and acting professional (kissing ass not needed imho ) will get you a lot further in business.

I tend to believe the $5k is being used as a filter, as they state, than as a money making scheme...
-
Strongvis: If it was all about business, there wouldn't be a $5K price for "outsiders", and a "not welcome" for folks they deem unfit to attend. That shows the real lack of professionalism.

No beef, never had contact with "Rick". I just see all the signs of yet another snake oil salesman making his pitch. This "show" bears no resemblance of a professional trade show, as other have pointed out.
Perhaps you confused me with some of the others who have had contact with this Rick person before, and seem to have, on their own, come back with the impression that he's a snake oil salesman?
-
Ahhh, they just removed the "not welcome" line -- a step towards professionalism.....maybe DK and Howard are learning something in their old age....

I didn't mean to imply that a$$ kissing was a requirement. I just think that statement carries a lot of weight in conducting business today with tomorrow in mind. I am a proud member of Ricks board and NOTHING has ever been asked of me in return.

Point taken George. But does this gives you, me and others a license to act unprofessional as well ? I don't think so.
All businesses have unwelcome signs too George. It's a fact of life. Additionally, price barriers are nothing new to keeping business at a certain standard.

What's the snakeoil that he's trying to sell us all ?
What constitutes a professional trade show in your eyes ?
Do you conduct business with any of the show sponsors ?
It's an insult not only to the sponsors but to all those attending for you to imply it is not a professional trade show. . . You realize this right ? Keep on digging.

Thank you for your disclosure of "conflict of interest".
I am sure some people will have a good time and learn a thing or two...
personally: If had 5 k to spend .. I will buy me a good 3 letter dot com.
Can't wait to see Duke's report
and based on some of the comments in this thread ' can't wait to hear some of the comments from the attendees'.
-
It won't matter at all to some of you folks what attendees have to say. Your major interest seems to be to bash Rick. Many of us are members of Ricks board and have posted time after time how important it has been in our business and personal lives. When attendees post anything good you will just refer to them as new cult members. How can a person post negatively about Rick in one post and then say he never met him or did business with him in the next?

Juniper - Since when are we equating ones worth by their email address? I would much rather have my worth, within this industry, defined by my domain assets.
What? Since a judgment has been passed by a few "super geeks" ridden with an inferiority complex - Suddenly we must all join upon the bandwagon/hatred for AOL?

When a person attempts to sell $5,000 tickets for his "expert opinions" on the use of domain names, he should at least know how to use domain names for basic purposes, like email.
If someone claimed to be an expert in the English language and created a flyer for their English seminar that was full of incorrectly spelled words, improper punctuation, and bad grammar, would you be gullible enough to pull out your wallet and pay for the seminar? I hope NOT. Same here.
And to the previous posters on professionalism, you obviously have not read the web page promoting this event.
And YES, please show me other professional trade shows doing business via an AOL account, and listing people "not invited". Post the links here, please.
