I might be able to help.
I had a very similar problem with a company that I think might be connected with them.
First of all, when exactly did the name expire?
You still have access to the domain, so that is encouraging.
My suggestion is to immediately do a transfer request AWAY from that registrar. That is what I was able to do, and it was actually AFTER the domain had expired.
Anyway, feel free to PM me and maybe I can help you further.

I also had similar problem with Netestate last year......but was also able to transfer domain out after expiration date but before redemption period....took a bit of effort first to get transfer Auth Code.

Its still showing my address and pointing to my name server, But Now they block Me access it from their website, as my password doesn't work anymore and they change all emails to complainsofficer@netestate.com
So basically I can not login to transfer it away
Not sure what to do now

Please send a complaint to ICANN as well.
This is an example of the ever growing problem of "transfer fullfillment" and the conflict of interest it has created.

Hello ILikeInfo
Do you have a link or email I can send a complain to ICANN, if you do please post it here
Thanks

Here's the link, it's actually through InterNIC.

I submitted two complaints in my case, which I think may have helped. Therefore I strongly suggest you do so.
The fact that they changed the contact email is very troubling, and I think underhanded and I'm not even sure if it's legal. Definitely unethical.

Whenever you get a domain on the drop, transfer that puppy ASAP to a more-reliable registrar, such as Moniker or Fabulous.
That way, if you have problems completing the transfer, you will have many months to solve it, before the domain expires.
My advice is based on many bad experiences with these pseudo-registrars, who merely rent their credentials and registry connections to the drop services, and who have little support, and, too often, little integrity.
Freedom is the only moral system of government. Democracy and Freedom are not synonymous. Popular political discourse is no more than debating how to arrange the deck chairs on the Titanic. Vote Libertarian. Go to LP.org.

I am very sorry that we cannot help more with this registrar but they have become completely non-responsive to us.
You can file a problem report here

You can also try contacting them at these email addresses.

At this juncture, I'd send Vito & Rolf to their door step in order to get them to see things your way and "cooperate" !

Hello Jeremy,
I appreciate the efforts of Snapnames in trying to help customers who find themselves at the mercy of non-responsive or lackluster registrars.
But can more be done to avoid registrars in the first place with less than impressive track records? Can Snapnames' vetting procedures be improved upon in this regard? I hope so.

Its True,
And I got the last email from snapname which I think is a Joke
Here what they say
Although Netestate was the registrar that assisted us with obtaining the domain, they are responsible for the domain management and maintenance. We do not have access to their systems. You may place another backorder via Snapnames so that we can attempt to acquire the domain when it releases for you.

Unbelievable! Don't you sign a contract with your registrar partners?

What a lame and crappy response by snapnames. They facilitated the transaction and took your money. They brokered the registration and set you up with that crummy registrar. They should step up to the plate and assume some of the responsibility to make things right. I would complain to the better business bureau at the very least. I like how they have the nerve to ask you to give them money to place another backorder for it, as if you'd ever want to do business with them again.

In SnapNames defense:
If a registrar goes "rouge", there's not a damn thing they can do about it except toss them out of the system ASAP. They can *TRY* to help and try to talk reason with that registrar, but if they are told to "f-off" then there is nothing practical they can do.
At the end of the day contracts means nothing to an evil registrar.
As suggested, *NEVER* leave a domain in a registrar you do not have any experiance with. Allways consoldate your domains as soon as the 60 day hold ends. No exceptions. Just mentally add the transfer cost to all your bids when you bid, and at the beginning of each month perform all the transfers you can.
Now that said, if you *DO* screwup and leave a domain at a registrar too long you can complain to ICANN regarding the registrar denying transfers out (their contract with ICANN for which you can submit complaints). Problem here is most registrars have a TOS that you agree to and thus denies transfers within 30 days of expiration - And if you trasfer within 40 days of renewal you'll actually lose 1 year of renewal fees (which the losing registrar keeps when the registry refunds them upon transfer) .... And so avoid that trap, transfer ASAP.
