Question Long tail and Geo-targeted Domain values going Up

I have noticed that I get more first offers these days over $500 than anytime before I could remember. Its mostly for geo-targeted domains such as city/county+service.com or some other long tail domains.

I also noticed that many one word dictionary domain values are going down than before.

I think this can possibly mean:

    - end users are beginning to understand domains.

    - more people need domains.

    - bad economy discouraging people from making big bets on top generics etc.

What else could be the reason?

Does anyone else see this trend?

    Thanks.

I have many of those type of Geo names and have not noticed this. No offers in fact. Im getting offers for pure city domains though, but not good enough offers to sell.
Your domains are never completely worthless. They can always be used as a bad example.

Looking at recent auctions, and also from the pizza.com and dollars.com sales....I think values are down somewhat as compared to a year ago for top geneics.

You consider $2.6M for pizza.com LOW!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

A lot of silly money floating about and people are panicking.

I don't think so. Most of the dictionary domains are speculatively registered and probably not search queries.

    - bad economy discouraging people from making big bets on top generics etc.
Yes and no. The premium generics are gone long ago and are maintaining their value (pizza.com being an example). The newbies tend to focus on bad phrase type domains. However the economy is about to get worse, I think. Easy credit helped a lot of newbies get into what rapidly became a bubble market. As a result of the worsening economic situation, a lot of these credit lines will be pulled and you will see a lot more domains going for regfee or not even being renewed.

The imminent vote on killing tasting by ICANN't is also going to free up a lot of domains. One of the main factors driving the domainer business has been the rarity of good domains and the lack or difficulty of getting good drops at a reasonable price. Now with tasters eradicated from June (if the morons in ICANN't vote the right way), the supply of potentially good domains will increase and drive the low and middle market prices down. This could, counterintuitively, make some niche and highly targeted non-generics more valuable. Perhaps this is the start of the trend that you are seeing now?

    Regards...jmcc

Yes, I think 2.6M for pizza.com is low....I was thinking 3.5M is fair price.

Plus we all know many domains don't even sell in auctions these days, which also could be due to sellers expecting higher prices for top generics.

Re: geo-targeted and long-tail domain offers.......I get lot of offers these days....all from end users and mostly starting at mid $XXX. Used to be like 20 dollar offers a year ago. I am not selling cheap but I noticed that some endusers are willing to pay higher prices.

So far all sales are between low x,xxx to mid x,xxx including many .us geo-targeted domains i.e. state/city/county+service type.

I clearly see a better understanding of domain usage and values happening among end users.

Agreed. But for every one of those inquiries, I get a half-dozen 30-dollar offers for x,xxx names. And I suspect I (we) always will.

If seller has sold Pizza.com after global economy, particularly U.S., gathers upward momentum, then it would have fetched him more $$$$$$$ IMO..
