You equate following rules with disrespecting your contributions. You're setting yourself up, T. If I associated any law I didn't like with a personal attack, I'd probably be a convicted criminal by now.

I learned a long time ago that people respect your opinion most when you only have to say it ONCE. If you need to keep repeating yourself (and you're not responding to something new), suddenly it doesn't become an opinion, it becomes whining. People who don't get your opinion in the first round simply "miss out".

On the subject of abusing forum settings just because they're technically allowed... I would have to agree that that comes across as childish. I'm not sure if you've ever had someone come into your forum and abuse priviledges, but I have, and its not something the average person appreciates. Like someone breaking into your web server and replacing your homepage and saying "YOUR BOX has BEEN OWNED, by the beastly Boyz! Upgrade your SOFTWARE, Biotch! We are LEET!" The attitude is "you let us do this, so why not", "we're doing you a favor with this wake-up call". If you're a friend or an otherwise benevolent contributor, you just send PM's or e-mail. Antagonists stage demonstrations.

Everybody has an opinion, but when you have your own forum, happily, you can ultimately ban those who for whatever reasons seeks to disrupt all of your hard work. I don't fault any forum for banning folks. I recommend those who don't like the rules to leave a forum long before they ever get banned. Much more classy.

"Just wanted to say goodbye. I disagree with the rules here enough that I feel I need to move on. Anyone needing to contact me in the future do not PM me, as I won't be answering them. Contact me through my website. Thanks for all the friends I've made here. Take care."

I personally think everyone here is bigger than their online personality, even if most people don't act like it. It's a big world out there.

    Best,

Theo, let there be no mistake, once banned from this site it is 99.99% terminal.

If you or anyone else feel they no longer need to be part of this site make sure BEFORE you/they push the buttons too hard It's want you want.

Possibly asking yourself/themselves: Will they miss me as much as I miss them?, might be best first.

Be assured this site will continue with or without you.

as advised, the signature script has been run and all signatures over 2 lines in length have been removed.

if your signature was removed you are welcome to recreate a new one - but please ensure it is 2 lines or less in length (including blank lines) as this script will be set as a regular cron job.
When using google for counts - use double quotes for usage counts for multiword terms and set "match type" to "exact" for all search volume lookups. Click here for more info

I totally agree, and I paid the $50 or whatever for memberhip at another forum, yet I use this one 99% of the time. This board has many features the other doesn't have, loads faster, and has an auto-login that WORKS. On the paid forum, the management not only hasn't fixed bugs but they don't respond to bug reports or email at all. Heck, they don't even let you post photos/avatars after you've PAID. That's why I'm here instead of there.

I thought Matty was just being sarcastic. I don't remember aguss ever being a mod. I don't remember seeing any "try dnf" posts from any "other forum mods" either. Not trying to be contrary, though. I think the rules REALLY HELP clear that all up. I think I commented on that earlier, and I appreciate Domebase's inroads there. Having "invisible rules" aren't really cool with me regardless of how "common sense" it may seem. Everyone has a different version of "common sense".

Thanks Nexus. I also think that the new rules help provide a lot more clarity and a decent balance in a tough area that almost all of the (three domain) forum admins and moderators (and members) have been struggling with for some time... where along the continuum to draw the line. I think that people of good faith have drawn the line in different places, but hopefully the new rules can provide some more guidance. Here is the relevant section from those rules --

    6. Other Domain Forums:

In some respects, domain discussion forums are part of the same community. In other respects, they compete. On balance, please neither promote nor disparage other forums. It is tacky to post -- "I am starting a new domain discussion forum at #####.com. Everybody come!" It is also tacky to post -- "######### who runs ######.com is a @#$!@#&%." Due to increased spamming, we have added explicit rules. Do not use a forum personal messaging or e-mail system to spam for other forums at DomainState or to spam for DomainState at other forums. If you own or moderate another forum, or have economic incentives to get people to join another forum, refrain from posting links to that forum in posts or your signature. Members without such economic incentives may post links to other forums where those links directly relate to thread content.
We have already been implementing this on both sides of the fence. Interestingly, we have probably annoyed some people who feel that we should not mitigate in any manner use of DomainState to mount criticism of other forums... as well as some people who feel that we should not mitigate in any manner use of DomainState to launch and promote other forums. For my two cents, I think we are doing OK seeking the balance. We should not annoy all the people all the time.. but perhaps if we are annoying some of the people on each side some of the time... we are doing a good job

A lot of thought and experience went into this wording and I hope that it bears good fruit in inter-forum relations.

hmmm... I hope this discussion of "brown nosers" is not somehow related to the DomainState "dog theme"?

Hooray for smaller sig files and fewer sales!

Nexus, your diatrebe is a masterpiece of useless drivel. But I respect your right to be entitled to it.

Matt, if you feel that you must ban me for speaking my mind, please do so. I believe I have been rather accomodating of your requests. But I believe that the current measures are 2 steps back: when users can turn off viewing signatures at any time in their CPanel, it seems to me that the attempt to be minimalistic is a failure.

Appreciate your impartial ( )"advice" there theo, but in all honesty we seem to be doing just fine. If people *need* to have more than 2 lines in their signature theres something very wrong somewhere.

There are many boards out there that are desperate for members where people can be as spammy as they like - but we're simply not one of them.

Theo, speaking your mind and being a disruptive pain in the neck ( especially behind the scenes ) are two different things. You have no choice but be accomodating Theo, rather or otherwise, because the rules were created after much debate by those that matter to combat certain patterns found on this board.

You have voiced your opposition to them ( the rules ), how about doing one of two things: Respect our rules or move on.

As for fewer sales, the sales forum seems to be doing ok lately, depending on the quality of names offered of course

Things would be fine if you didn't change the rules all the time. The signature tweak is pure micromanagement. Give me a break here! And by the way, what about the constant litter of Auctions in the Sales forum? Why do I have to put up with $1 increases "across 3 forums" that bump those auctions to the top? Oh and I just now discovered that your FAQ & Rules do not explicitly restrict 1 thread per day in the Sales forum.

Yes Matty, I've been a pain in the neck behind the scenes because I report all those violations that you forgot to address. I guess you're upset because I now address those things in public.

If you don't like it - leave. Its a very simply decision.

The reason we don't like what you're doing is because its based on nothing more than petty agenda because you have your own forum and its not worked out as well as you'd like so you need to use other peoples sites to promote your wares - and if those sites don't allow you do what you please you feel aggrieved.

Pretending its for any other reason than that is to insult everyones intelligence.
