I'm tired of reading this place is really going well and "we've all" switched over.


Right now on this board:
"There are currently 8 members and 2 guests on the boards."

Right now at DNForum:
"There is currently 26 members and 4 guests on the boards."

I guess you guys are going to spam DNF a little more now.

It's quality - not quantity - that matters,

We've not spammed DNF OC, if dnf users are mentioning this site there than thats only because they like whats here.

If you look around, you'll see we've not resorted to dnf or dan bashing and we don't intend to do so.

Lets all move on.

I made an announcement about a RAFT of people important to DnForum users starting another site, and now it's spam???

No one's comfortable with this genius, so why the snide remarks?

I do not like the split either. I feel like a kid whose parents got divorced and are now living in two different homes.

One of the ironies is that deciding what material is spam or not requires judgement and work. As does control of folks who abuse forums in multiple aliases and IPs. As does skilled control of debate so that things do not get out of control. This all requires a whole lot of work. It also adds value. I have participated in too many forums where people begin calling each other names... and then multiple postings... and then swearing... and before you know it.. rational discourse is wiped out and good feelings are replaced with venom and ill-will. Who needs that? I personally can not afford the time to spend moderating a forum, so I have to go to a place where someone else is willing to do it.

I like both Mom and Dad, but Dad's house has no fire alarm or security system.

Dan will have mods in no time. It's not like it's going to be modless forever and ever.

To me, posting about a competing forum on DNF with "Announcement:" looks spammy. It would look spammy here, too.


I may have over-reacted in my reply to that so-called announcement thread (the "Announcement:" thing made me think it was self-promotion), but it was locked before I could edit it again.

Who knows, DNF might become a zoo. I'll give it a chance before it does...

Without patting ourselves on the back too much I think the members at dnf are unaware just how much effort was needed to keep the boards sane.

SirAlexFerguson got past us and thanfully behaved. He behaved because he knew that we would get rid of him in a flash if he didn't.

He knew because 5 times he and his ip were banned. He admitted so in a recent posting at dnf. He was originally serothehero. He admits, in the post mentioned above, he was being racist. He kept coming back but before members even knew it or he could start trouble he was gone.

When you mod a site for as many hours as the three of us did the posters cannot disguise themselves very well and we know who they are. We checked ips and spoke amongst ourselves and as you can see by his post we nailed him every time except the last.

That is an answer to multiple idenities. Spending lots of time reading posts and acting quickly.

How many aliases of Hippie Chick were banned O.C.? No members would know except us mods because before you noticed trouble they and their post were gone. BTW. She's Back!! at dnf!! I could tell you who she is but I wont. I don't mod there anymore.
