Maybe the firm knows that a sale at that level will earn it plenty of free advertising via mentions in the media, blogs etc, a la the business.com sale for $7.5M.

What else was sold?

We know intuitively that this sale isn't real. Or at least I do.
Thankfully Obama is though.

I guess it was the domain itself:
"Fund.com Inc. has made significant investment in Online Publishing, including the acquisition of the domain names, fund.com and accreditedinvestor.com. Our management includes experienced Internet executives who are in charge of developing the fund.com marketplace, which will include Web2.0 community functionality and certain investment portfolio analysis engines. The Fund.com Beta is anticipated to launch in Spring ’08."

(Gene Simmons in the cover of one of their magazines makes it even more surreal...)
Like GeorgeK said they can't be messing around with the books, this is not an offshore company where anything goes...

NEW YORK, NY--(MARKET WIRE)--Jan 22, 2008 -- Eastern Services Holdings, Inc. (OTC BB:ESVH.OB - News) today announced it has changed its name to Fund.com Inc to reflect its newly acquired business in a reverse merger with privately held Fund.com Inc
says newly acquired business...
maybe putting the $10 mil tag on the domain is for tax reasons?

I think this was a seperate transaction, I thought it was related as well at first though it appears to be a backdoor listing a few months after the purchase of the domain. They have bought a domain, changed the company name to reflect the new name then been taken over by a listed company in exchange for 85%+ of the shares.
-
I have it on good authority that they are using this domain name as a vehicle to launder tens of millions of dollars to the Colombian cocaine cartels. And Hugo Chavez is helping them. You can quote me.
-
If you think this what a bad transaction, look at datarecovery.com I use to work for ESS Data Recovery, who bought the domain for 1.7 million dollars and they definitely overrated the domain. They had been trying to buy it for 5-7 years prior and the owner would not sell. The company only brings in $2 million a year! The only thing I can be happy about is for domain owners as I am. My price on my portfolio has gone up 100%.

Yeah, there is a few big inflated sales like this each year.

I think you'll find the market hasn't exactly "jumped up" in recent months. Generally price levels are well below what they were last year except for 3 and 4 letter acroymn names.
-
Do you think all 3 and 4 letter domains have jumped up? If so how much? and if they have gone up, how much are they worth now?
I am only interested because I own 40+.

3 and 4 letter .com's, 3 letter .com's start at around $6800, 4 letter .com start around $40.

That's a pretty good return for me. Thanks for your quick replies! I am planning on getting at least $200 per 4 LLLL domain. I have heard that all 4 LLLL .com domains will be worth $200-$500 by the end of the year. Do you think this is true? or just some people trying to bring the value up?
