$390,000 for Candle.com - seller was ibm
Interesting one, this was apparently listed as sold on afternic this morning for $390,000.
The buyer is petsunited (dog.com) who have been continually buying alot of names, farm.com, bike.com, tikitorches.com (bought off nameadmin), mannequins.com (recent one over 100k). Seller was IBM.
Afternic have removed the sale so I'd guess the buyer has told them to take it off (the same thing happened petsunited bought bird.com for 200k).

I speculate that NameMedia might act as the selling broker
for some corporations that might want to sell non-utilized domains.
And, at one time, BuyDomains loaded all of the domains
into Afternic.

thanks for the heads up on the candle.com sale snoopy. Petsunited are buying some very nice properties.

Yes they have bought alot, I can't quite see what their strategy is though.

It's simple snoops...
Buyer shops at petsunited for a dog, also picks up a bird, then to comfortably accommodate his growing menagerie he's upsold to buying a farm.
Out on the farm the bird flies away late in the afternoon and buyer races back to store to buy a bike, a candle and tikitorches to give chase.
Bike proves useless in quest to recapture bird, so my guess is next on the domain purchase list will be microlite.com

Seriously though it's good to see a firm investing in quality generic domain names relevant to the products they sell, or plan to sell.

spiking the eggnogg
fiz, i think they're spiking the eggnogg over there. that is the funniest connection between domain purchases i have seen. happy holidays.
by the way, IBM has some GREAT domains. We're trying to buy one of them, but when I saw this sale, obviously we need to put a zero after the offer.

fizz, that was brilliant. Your forensic skills are amazing.
Going fishing, soon, I hope.

Not a great purchase - won't they also need candles.com?

I think candles.com would be a much better name with possibly better converting traffic. Lots of corporates use the term "candle" as company names etc. Though likely very difficult to acquire the singular and plural of a common term like that.
Overall I would agree with your view that it is likely an overpayment.
