100.000 Domains .CO in the first hour.
.CO domains already started for General Public and on the first hour more than 100.000 domains, 8.200 in the first minute and 100.000 on the first 22 minutes, all without technical problems and working perfectly.
At this time there are more than 279.000 domains .CO registered.
As it was commented before, the domain .CO has brought fresh air to the over populated .COM world and many well known companies are using the .CO extension like Twitter using t.co or the political blog in the United States “Politico” using politi.co.
The three most highlighted characteristics of domains .CO is that, they are Global, Trustworthy and of easy to remember.
One of the most notorious facts is the effort that .CO Internet S.A.S. has put in transforming domains .CO in one of the most trustworthy extension there is.
The technological capacity was demonstrated considerably in responding to thousand requests in less than half an hour during the opening.
The domain .CO offers optimum protection and security measures for users and their intellectual property forcing them to use their information and with that assure a transparent WHOIS which moves away the cybersquatters and this is also combined with other legal protection measures.

Juan - I have a question for you. I want to book a domain starting “greater<GEO name>.co . There is already a site with.com and it is a online news paper for that GEO.
Can I book .co version. Do I have any legal issues in registering .co version. Thanks in advance.
Thanks

Unless they have a TM on the phrase "greater <GEO name>" and you use the domain that infringes on their exact TM class, that is make your self out to be them or send traffic to their competitors, then there would not be legal issues with such a registration.
Making a different site and business on the same spelt name does not constitue a TM infringement.
As a note, .co use the same resolution policies (UDRP) that applies to .com
Cheers

Register .CO
It is important to know this:
- If the owner of the domain .COM has a registered trademark one might have problems, this is easy to check in different places on Internet, may check if the owner of domain .COM has a trademark in Colombia in the following link:
http://serviciospub.sic.gov.co/Sic/P...ultaSignos.php
There are also this sites for USA and Europe:

http://oami.europa.eu/ows/rw/pages/Q...earchCTM.es.do

- If the new site .CO will do the same as the .COM site it is also probable to have opposition even if there is no trademark.
- Last, if the .COM site is very known worldwide it is also probable that the owner of the .COM will want the .CO domain.
Not only the trademark constitutes rights but also the use of the concept and the quantity of the resources and time spent in making it known to the public.
If there are no registered trademarks (at least in Colombia) and the site .CO will do something different it is less probable to have opposition. Although the extension .CO is having a huge importance and it is likely that the owner of the .COM will want the .CO even without trademark.
