Travel Registry Approved to Release 1 and 2-Character Domain Names
On August 5, 2010, the Board of Directors of ICANN approved a .travel proposal to allow it to release all one and two-character domain names. Under a program which .travel will announce in September, valuable names such as AA.travel, 1.travel and A1.travel, will be available for the first time. As with all top level domains launched in recent years, the .travel Registry has to this point been limited to registration of names at least three characters in length.
Registration of names from this limited group offers an opportunity for registrants to achieve a high level of name recognition.
Potential registrants and .travel registrars will be given ample opportunity to review the release program prior to registration of any names in the group.
