    Thumbs up Google kills .mobi

    http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2009/...-easy-and.html

If you haven't tried Google Search on your phone in a while (or ever!) go ahead and give it a try now by going to Google.com in your mobile browser.

Oh, and Google is also a shareholder in .mobi:

    And for Gmail too:

The easiest way to check Gmail from your phone is to go to gmail.com in your device's mobile browser. That opens a version of Gmail built especially for small screens, where you can see messages grouped into conversations, search through your mail, or flag important messages with stars.

I can't remember them ever promoting a .mobi address, good to see them move away from promoting the sub domain though as it is a logical thing just to promote the existing address rather than promoting multiple addresses to the same people.

With .mobi I think in end it was realized that "backers" means "shareholders", so they'd like to make money from the sale of .mobi registrations but have no interest in promoting it or encourging the use of it. Pity that misunderstanding cost domainers collectively many millions of dollars.
GamesRoom.com, Possum.com, Arithmetic.com on greatdomains auction, low reserves, priced to sell!

I've been saying that for years about these "new" domains... a farce of grand proportions.

Would be interesting to see the "history" of these new domain launches and how they steadily went up in price and fees... how they mastered the launches to include sales at auctions for premium names.

It could be a really good book and then movie. Maybe even in 3D.

I got several but one I can say works well for me and that is because it is a real action live website for when we travel to the Sturgis rally in South Dakota http://www.sturgisrally.mobi

Pretty much any extension can work for development, but as far as domainers go .mobi has been a disaster overall I think.

Same problem with the proposed .xxx tld. Only difference is that the intended target 'audience' (adult webmasters) is actually boycotting it.
