marketing ploy? (if so ..what a great way to create more expectation, good or bad "time" will tell.)

Man, I smelled this in the wind. I'll bet you dollars to donuts that the aggrieved are threatening to expose all elements of any dirty dealing that took place at the outset. Threats to unseat the registry operator? Threats to unseat registrars? ICANN involvement by nonfeasance? Payola? Threats of punitive damages, libel, slander, "you shot my pony", "you have sex with farm animals", etc.
What a platter of $hiiiiiii. . . . must be being served up 'round about now. Owwza!
Going fishing, soon, I hope.

Can't seem to add info names at pool now, anyone getting through? (update this problem was at my end caused by www.info).
====
Plus is anyone saving the plot so we can start working on the movie script?

Is this the same Afilias that gives support to the .MOBI registry system ?.

I think StockDoctor, etc, are correct and that Afilias is undergoing some kind of legal pressure. I'm sure Afilias has *ZERO* intention of losing this ongoing dispute.

That the Hotlists do tend to bring attention but obviously nothing like this post did.
You'll be surprise who lurks at DS , from Big-Players to Industry Think-Tanks and/or their "Eyes and Ears"
Do not underestimate domainstate.com in general as proven by the lastest business 2.0/cnn.com coments , when the people from DS talk people listen ...
Of course same can be said about F Schilling and his Blog.

Doesn't really make sense to run these names through the usual drop systems, where the winning bids go to the owners of those systems.
Instead, Afilias ought to run an open auction, with 10% of the proceeds going ICANN, and the balance going to a legitimate charity selected by the 2nd highest bidder, where the legitimacy of the charity is confirmed by a vote of the 10 highest bidders.
A relatively simple system, but just sophisticated enough to keep everyone honest and to give all of the serious bidders an added incentive to bid aggressively (even if you don't win the domain, you might have some input into where the proceeds go).

By looking at the nice bids already you can see .info is not far from the investor's radar.

Duke -- This looks like the makings of a good story for the Journal. Can you get into the Afilias office on a press pass?

USA.info $9000
Airline.info $3000
medical.info $ 1600
investment.info $ 4000
legal.info $ 2500
airline.info $ 3000
bank.info $ 9000
auction.info $ 4000
fashion.info $ 2500
florida.info $ 3000
Stockdoctor forgot to mention that the above bids are in pesos.
You need to divide the numbers by 11 to arrive at approx. U.S. dollar amount.
1 peso = 0.092 U.S. dollars.
