This seems like a timebomb to me. The second a link appears that can be used in a decision youtube will be all over this company. Is it possible to manipulate these links to display what you want? - ie like unscrupulous lawyers have done in the past to steal domains.
Maybe they think their previous threats of suing youtube for all that unwanted traffic provides them some kind of cover for "having" to do this to cover the extra bandwidth costs.
When using google for counts - use double quotes for usage counts for multiword terms and set "match type" to "exact" for all search volume lookups. Click here for more info
It would not surprise me that the action reflects an informal settlement of the traffic issue. Seems within reason if their traffic is unwanted to afford them a method to defray the costs of bandwidth, etc.

Just took a look at http://www.utube.com/ and they've gone many steps further by separating their original website content to http://www.utubeonline.com/ and made the layout look very similar to the youtube website, with a video theme.
Even in my address bar on the left of the url there's a video camera icon.
They really are positioning themselves for a lawsuit...or a massive out of court settlement.
