Assuming you mean getting traffic to an actual developed website vs park sites (which are for existing traffic) then you're really going to be looking at having high quality unique content that is structured in a search engine friendly manner and getting links to your site from existing "quality" sites either to get targeted traffic from those sites or to enhance your ranking in the search engines by association.
When using google for counts - use double quotes for usage counts for multiword terms and set "match type" to "exact" for all search volume lookups. Click here for more info

Can you explain that in lamer terms

Bascially, Iam designing a website. It will be designed from scratch.

So far, I have the main templates, and pictures stored locally on my pc.

When I upload this website to the interweb, I want pepople to search and eventually find it.

I was search, earlier on and managed to come across a bit of software which claims to submit it to lots of diffrent search engines.

Ofcourse, this involves spending money. - which I dont mind doing if its going to work.

If I am reading youy right then I would need to sumbit my site manually to each single search engine.

I overheard some one talking about "backlinks"..
    and meta tags.

Keep the information comming = help the noobie

Just the basics but make sure your title tag contains your keywords which you aim to rank for, but try restricting the # of chars you put in their.

Name your images appropriately. So if you making a site based around fishing, name an image "icefishing.jpg" rather than something like "image20.jpg".

Your content has to be fresh and unique and contain the keywords you wish to rank for. Dont spam the article with keywords, remember you should be making the site for humans not robots. Again, using the example of fishing, try ranking for long tail keywords rather than broad terms. E.G: "ice fishing techniques" rather than "fishing". To find some long-tail kw's, try freekeywords.wordtracker.com.

I don't want to explain what backlinks and meta tags are, here are a few links to articles though.

    Backlinks

    Meta Tags

(Don't concentrate on meta tags too much though)

Don't waste your money. If you get quality backlinks from other websites, you'll get indexed in the search engines. The only meta tags that you should be concerned about are title and description. Meta keyword tags have been deprecated in search engine algorithms for several years already.

BTW, this is not a developer forum. You would find much more informative answers on other forums.

You can get the Traffic for Your websites in many ways there are lot of ways to achieve this ,You can follow the Free and paid method to reach good results in generating Traffic
    Free Method is
    1)Forum Submission
    2)Blog submission
3)Answering to real time open Questions
4)submitting directories You can search in Google to get many free directories site, like Yahoo and Dmoz are Directories...this is free methods i known to generate traffic, this helps to get small amount(ratio) of visitors and traffic

I'd like to express the point that forum posting as well as blog commenting can be very helpful in terms of getting more traffic.
