I kind of agree with you namethink but I think the motivations here may not all be borne from pure altruism. No offense to the owners implied. Yes, as dnpowerful noted very succintly and without mincing words in his post, the three owners/moderators are very good, trustable people. I think what safe and co are trying to do is to create the fertile grounds from which a quality community can take root and make money without taking money from members directly which I think is smart - you make money through the goodwill and trust you create and the recommendations you offer via advertisements or just simple direct recommendations. That's a model that feeds on itself I imagine and snowballs. It doesn't need to be asked. It's self assured.

Still, I know I wouldn't mind contributing and it can be frustrating when you want to help those with good intentions and they seemingly don't want that help in that particular form. I know I would donate.

Hey these guys are probably rich anyway

I think thats fair tee. We're not running it as a charity or as a get rich quick scheme either. To date we have declined more advertising than we have accepted and we will only recommend, by way of advertising, things we have faith in.

the money that it brings in covers the direct costs of the forum (excluding time costs obviously, but it's more pleasure than "work").
When using google for counts - use double quotes for usage counts for multiword terms and set "match type" to "exact" for all search volume lookups. Click here for more info

Whether its donation of funds FOR development or donation of development ITSELF, I think its more important than can immediately be appreciated that these decisions are made by the mods after proper thought. I love contributing to things all the time, and have offered my services here for free (just made a contribution to DNForum). I certainly appreciate the offering that Martin Reeves has made to DomainState in the nifty toolbar (use it everyday, I do.) Everything needs to be taken in stride I guess. I try not to feel too anxious about it all, everything in time. I'll just focus my efforts other places and keep options open for future contribution until then.

    I'm sorry...I don't quite understand what you're saying here.

Er? Ew. I guess that was fairly messy. I'll try it again.

"Whether people want to donate money or donate development effort, I think it is important that the decision to "accept" such an offer is understood to be at the complete discretion of the moderators/owners of the forum. I love contributing things--"

The rest may make better sense now. I was basically saying that we shouldn't get too "hyper" about showing our appreciation and wanting to contribute. Part of respecting someone's contributions is respecting their wishes to recieve contributions to them in ways they deem appropriate. I say this as much for myself as anyone else.
