Benefits/Costs of Becoming an ICANN-Accredited Registrar

Hi, I was wondering how onerous the ICANN registrar accreditation process really is, in practice.

The Rules require proof of financial solvency as well as technical proficiency, but can't a lot of the technical aspects be outsourced?

If you were getting into the business of researching/buying/reselling a large volume of domain names, wouldn't it make sense to just become a registrar yourself? Thanks!
