    Earth.com

I paid upper six figures for it last week, and it currently makes $12,000 euro's a month off a few thousand type-ins a day.

My partner and I are having a debate about its value, and we have a Christmas bet.

What would you value this name at? One of us would flip it in a sec if the multiple were right, the other one wouldn't sell unless it was a kwazzzzy multiple (like Snoopy's much talked-about but never seen Sasquatch multiple )))

Thanks for any opinions and Happy Holidays.

The formula below should give you an idea of the value.

    $12,000 euro's x 12 months x 8 P/E = value

I think that is the right formula and you probally know this anyways.

Traffic on earth.com, as evident by overture, has grown 3-4x over the past year probably due to earth.google.com and other satellite imaging sites.

I was working a deal on earth.co.uk for the same reason.

You have to decide where that rev. will be in a year.

    Great name.
    Good luck.

P/E is the Price-Earnings Ratio for 1 year, and 8 is usually the number they use to get the value of a company. 8 does not represent years.

    Yahoo (YHOO) has a P/E of 38
    Google (GOOG) has a P/E of 95
    Ford (F) has a P/E of 7.7

The formula below gives the present value of a company. A P/E of 8 is considered the standard, but some companies are valued higher, or lower.

    $12,000 euro's x 12 months x 8 P/E = value

Domains are not valued by that metric. It has no currency in the domain market.

Using the P/E method the value of your domain comes in at $1,367,310 US Dollars

in addition to the satellite imagery side, its a very solid brand type for any community/international operation. The traffic value sets a baseline below which selling makes no financial sense but the upper limit is a whole different basket of fruit.
When using google for counts - use double quotes for usage counts for multiword terms and set "match type" to "exact" for all search volume lookups. Click here for more info

    Obviously a wonderful name...

do you guys ever develop? if so, no way would I flip it.

if you don't develop, the criteria changes...

is there an end user out there with it on their short list and with the funds to pay 7 figures?

if you expect the traffic rev to continue to climb, as you stated above, then holding it seems like a no-brainer...

of course, it also comes down to circumstance and something tells me you're not in the position of 'needing' to sell...

fun to chew on the decision process on big names like this, best of luck with it!

    *GREAT* Domain!

I'm jelious and agree with the Snoopy "Sasquatch multiple" notion on this one.

I think that evaluating this domain only because of its traffic is wrong.
Traffic revenue is the lazy man option, but someone could profit from it in many other ways.

This is an excellent domain, I would put it into the 7 figures range, probably mid seven figures with the right buyer.

Fantastic, you can actually put google earth on your web site with this and run it with google adsense ads.
