Channel11 .com -- 231 with ext / overture
.
Just picked this name up. If you notice, the best channel #'s to get are between 2 - 13 . Reason being is these are basic channels (non-cable) for the major networks such as ABC, CBS, FOX, WB, NBC etc .. The major drop in overture w/ext results after channel13.com is a good indication of this . After channel 13 the ovt w/ext numbers just drop off the radar screen .
With that said, what do you think the value of Channel11. com is .. But first consider the following:
Channel 11 is the Major FOX network in the huge Los Angeles Television market .. As can be seen here www.fox11la.com .
It is the WB network in New York !! www.wb11.com
In the San Francisco/Oakland/ San Jose Region, channel 11 is NBC as can be viewed here- www.nbc11.com
In Texas, Channel 11 is CBS for the Dallas/FortWorth area www.cbs11tv.com . Also in Texas, Channel 11 is www.kcbd.com ( NBC) and www.khou.com
In the Baltimore / Washington DC area, channel 11 is NBC www.thewbalchannel.com
In Atlanta , channel 11 is NBC - www.11alive.com
In Colorado , it is CBS for - www.kktv.com and NBC for www.nbc11news.com
In the Carolina's it is ABC www.abc11tv.com
In Minneapolis, Minnesota and St.Paul, channel 11 is NBC - www.kare11.com
As you can see, I did some research before buying this name
These are just a few, there are dozens more where major networks in major US cities and regions claim Channel 11 .. Like www.wtol.com , www.wluk.com , www.upn11.com , www.winktv.com , www.kcbd.com to name some of them.
Considering this, what do you consider the value of the .com ? Thanks all in advance for your replies ..

I would estimate $10,000 - $15,000. One of these network affiliates will pause to think about the inherent clarity (simplicity) in your name. All of these major affiliates are using the odd station call letters or some other quirky combination and by comparison your name will make good business sense to at least one of them. Lots of Google pages for "channel 11" and your quoted ovt w/extension a definite plus. Don't be deterred by any initial refusals.
I might recommend contacting various station managers about your intent to sell/auction this name by a specified date. Provide them stats and inform them of your auction reserve so they might have a base figure on which to decide going forward. Just a thought. Probably have several angles on moving the name. Good luck.

Thanks for your inquisitive and well informed response Carlton .. I figured this name was a bargain at mid $xxxx that I paid for it .. The other Channel names from #2 to # 13 all said it wasn't for sale or wanted $150k+ for the couple enquiries that did say they'd sell..

Great buy Sarah. IMO to the right TV station and if you're prepared to wait, you may realise $40K+.

All of this is true, but most tv stations have and probaly had for quite awhile "internet presence" ... and with that these stations are already identified as something else other than channel_.com., (as long and terrible of a name it might seem... they can however advertise it to death for free) changing thier already established identity will be a mistake.
Not to say that somebody will buy it one day ...
The great thing about these domains is that you get a lot of traffic (and hopefully a corprate sale one day ) , I had canal7 canal2 and canal8 .com's for awhile , I get traffic from over 15 countries , for the reasons you mentioned above.

Yes, I am looking to possibly put up a pay-per-view movie site on the name like you see on www.netflix.com or like the one on the site www.channel19.com ..

Hmm, that doesn't really hold much water with me Robert .. Because I was able to sell MarketingOnline.com to a company that already had a huge internet presence before they bought the name.. Same with CosmeticsOnline.com, PhoneCalls.net , FinanceLoans.com, Loanco.com , AcneMedicine.com , JetTravel.com , RoundTripTickets.com , WinterCoats.com , USCitizenship.com, BuyBouquet.com , LosAngelesKings.com , MensShoes.Net, and dozens and dozens of other sales I have made through the years ..
90% of my sales were to companies that already had an online presence ..
and with that these stations are already identified as something else other than channel_.com
However, they are all identified as "channel 11"

I am forced to let Google (sedo) do it's thing...
I don't see serious numers of people typing channel11.com and then joining netflix.com perhaps their payouts will compensate for the poor ratios ...
As it is very hard to match viewers with relevant results... every person is going to be looking for a different station eg : click from new york, los angeles, vancouver, denver, london ? etc etc.
It will be interesting to see "internet tv" flourish... (so far it hasn't happen) .

cosmeticsonline.com re-routed to buymebeauty.com
phonecalls.net parked at godaddy.com (note even ppc)
financeloans.com doesn't even resolve...
loanco.com resolves to http://www.debtreliefoptions.org/
good luck with your projects...

Yes, some of those sales were sold by me 4 years ago . I can't control what buyers ( or companies) have done since .
BuyMeBeauty.com was an established company before they bought CosmeticsOnline.com earlier this year, you proved my point here if anything..
For instance, you say FinanceLoans.com doesnt even resolve.. Well how is that my fault ? I am not in control of the name anymore because I SOLD it .

Another point in case wintercoats.com' huge internet company has a "coming soon". soon .. ebay.com auction... not answering Matty traffic questions (refer to thread) ... fishy fishy fishy

I keep forgetting how defensive you get when you hear something you don't like...
I stay out of your threads " Bob ".

#1 You stated that all because an entity may already have an online branded presence they wouldn't be interested in buying a domain name, and I proved you wrong in more than one example .. As a matter of fact, everyday you are proven wrong as branded companies buy domains all the time .
#2 - regarding the WinterCoats.com sale - tuffones.com had a previous URL which since speaking to the owner after the sale I won't devuldge the domain.. Just put it this way, he had a huge garment manufacturing website in another country, now that he has moved his headquarters to Times Square NYC , he wants to develop more to the US market..
Now, stop talking about things you have no clue know about .. I didn't know my business dealings interested you so much .
#3- regarding Mattys post I didn't see it .. If you check dnforum.com sales threads, another user asked me the same question and I obliged with figures, there was nothing "fishy" as you assumed or suggested.. Here is the thread so read it and weep
http://www.dnforum.com/thread102864-.html
So, take your false accusations and false assumptions elsewhere or via PM..
And finally #4 - I am not getting defensive, you are getting offensive and downright rude.. All you have to say is you think channel11. com is worthless .. That's fine by me .. But if you are going to give reasons give reasons, not statements that are untrue like branded companies don't buy domains.. Come on, please kiddo you are making everyone laugh here..
Robert, it is one thing to have some sort of friendly debate, it's an entirely different thing to throw out false accusations and false assumptions on a public forum and stating things you have absolutely no idea about.. That's very childish RobertF IMO and I am sure in the opinions of others here as well . Best of luck to you
.

Please keep this thread on-topic rather than decending into an argument about something other than the merits of the domain name.
The examples given at the start of the thread show the companies have no problem in branding in alternative domains which is an advantage tv companies have because they don't have to pay to bash their message into the brains of their viewers.
But its a solid enough name that I'm sure will get serious end user interest at some point because there are just so many tv stations across this spinning rock.
