Social media marketing is clearly making its place in the web marketing world and proving to influence the entire online marketing business. What do you think? Do you think social media marketing will eventually replace search engine marketing or will it be the new search?
-
No, I don't think it will replace it. It definitely complements search engine marketing efforts and should be used as another online marketing tool.

Both are very different SEM & SMM. For SEM you have to pay to Google or any other search engine that you are using to promote the website per single click while in SMM you have to pay to the social media sites.

Search engine marketing (SEM) is a form of Internet marketing that involves the promotion of websites by increasing their visibility in search engine results pages (SERPs) through optimization (both on-page and off-page) as well as through advertising (paid placements, contextual advertising, and paid inclusions).[1] Depending on the context, SEM can be an umbrella term for various means of marketing a website including search engine optimization (SEO), which adjusts or rewrites website content to achieve a higher ranking in search engine results pages, or it may contrast with SEO, focusing on only paid components.
