.MX Domains
Anybody invest in these?
I just regged another 100 - think it's a market with massive potential. What are your thoughts?
-
Registering 100 of anything in one go sounds like bad move to me. How much research was done on each name?
Would suggest being extremely selective personally, if you are finding that many names that you think are worthy of registering then they probably aren't great names.
-
I probably did about 4 hrs research to select those 100 names. Maybe about 3-4 hours research on .mx domains in general.
I have about 30 spanish names and the 100 batch are actually all LLL.mx's which does make it a bit easier to reg in bulk.
It's a long term play & no doubt a gamble but a calculated one I hope.

It doesn't sound like a lot of calculations were done to me if each name involved an average of 2 minutes research. If you find hundreds of names I would suggest maybe registereing the best one or two rather than blowing up the credit card.

Yes but they were LLL.mx's so analysing and scoring each letter according to language, geo locations, existing business acronyms etc is a lot more efficient.
Make sense?

To me it just seems like a slap dash way of registering names, this type of thing (registering 100 3 letter domains) kind of worked a few years ago. I say kind of because it was still very hit and miss (mostly miss) and was really reliant on a buyout taking place and then it going much further to push prices higher (then get out quick) - ie a boom time strategy.
Today it it sounds like a lazy way of registering names which is likely to to result in a loss - because proper research has not been done. I fully understand that you'd completely disagree-otherwise you wouldn't have registered them. At the end of the day is there any business model in this, spend 6 hours, register 100 names in an extension you know little about, then hope you can sell them for more later?

the .mx domains really only work for the proper SPANISH words for goods/services/places in Mexico.
EnglishWord.mx is junk.
IncorrectSpanishWord.mx is junk too.
3Letter .mx's? maybe, maybe not. I'm leaning towards the "not" as they were all available for you to reg a year after they could have been tied up by anyone else? Sounds fishy to me.

Agree 100% here. Even PremiumEnglishWord.mx is junk.

I don't see what your saying? Seemed to me about 30% of the 'premium' .mx's have been registered. They were never all going to be regged on day 1? Sorry maybe I'm missing your point.

my point is that for those that were paying attention, the time to lock up ANY pure ".mx" was just about a year ago after the Registry announced it would grandfather in the existing third level domains into straight 2nd level domains.
There was a window of time that one could register the third level domains and they would still count towards the Sunrise requirement a few months later.
And they were cheap, as were the 2nd level ".mx" corresponding names during Sunrise. I never realized how good a deal we had until I saw the premiums they were charging right after Sunrise... wow.

There still some decent .mx available, the acceptance from end-users and developers has been very low (near dissmal) however eventually in many years from now will be the de-facto extension ...
Nic.mx is determined to kill (for lack of better word) the .com.mx at whatever co$t.
A good play in the long run for premium and semi premium keywords .
