.info zone removals
I have a list of 1,100 .info domains that were removed from the .info zone file in the last 7 days. Some are available to register and others look like they are likely to be released back soon.
Here's the link:

Thanks for posting this list but there is a little problem with it: each name misses the last letter. Not a big problem for the longer names, but quite a bit of guessing for the 2/3-letter names.
Could you maybe repost the complete names?

sorry about that hanogl, its updated now and shows the correct domains.
When using google for counts - use double quotes for usage counts for multiword terms and set "match type" to "exact" for all search volume lookups. Click here for more info

Safesys,
I find these removed Info's interesting stuff. Can you explain to me how I can detect such zonefile dropping myself?
You can answer here or if you think it goes too far offtopic please email me at hanogl@hotmail.com
Thanks,
Hans

in essence its simple. you sign up with afilias to access the zone files and download a copy of the file.
the file contains nameserver information for all the live domains.
a period of time later you download the file again.
then you strip just a list of the unique domain names from each and compare them.
domains that are in the old but not the new are deletions, domains in the new and not the old are additions.
thats it in simple form.
potential problems:
you need a static ip address to access the .info zones.
you need to be able to handle 2x 10mb compressed files
you need to be able to strip out unique domains names and compare them (diff will do the comparison in linux).
for .coms, its so intensive with the filesizes you may as well pay exody.com $35 a month and have them do this work and more besides.

Thanks for the info. I think I can do most of it. Just two questions:
1) How do I sign up with Afilias? Is this available for everybody or only for registrars?
2) If this is basically just downloading files, why do you need a static IP?
Thanks,
Hans

Why are .info domains dropping already? I thought the registry required a two year registration.
Can't believe fist-f***.info is available.

static ip is for security purposes to make sure only those legally bound by contract can access the zones.
anyone can contact afilias - use the email address on their web site.

Safesys, I registered one of the names on your list in July 2002. Any idea why it's on the list?
The Afilias whois record for the domain seems fine.
